Croatia
Before Yugoslavia descended into civil war in the early 1990s, it was a very popular budget holiday destination with British travellers. Crete
For family holidays, Crete is hard to beat. The largest of the Greek islands has villas, hotel accommodation and apartments in plentiful supply, and the golden beaches are entertainment enough for most small children. Opting for a package holiday in one of the larger resorts means that there will be clubs and activities for the children as well as bars, restaurants and pools for the adults too. The current problems with the Greek economy also mean that deals to Crete can be superb value for money.
Northern Spain
The north coast of Spain is practically unheard of as a tourist destination in the UK, but it is popular with Spaniards trying to escape from the crowds. Ferries run from UK ports to Bilbao and Santander, and from there it’s just a short drive to the lush countryside of the area.
